Step 11: daily practice
Log your quiet time — prayer, meditation or reflection — what came up, and the guidance you're taking into the day.
Step 11 keeps you connected through a regular practice — prayer, meditation, a walk, journaling. In a trial of 286 people who had finished addiction treatment (Bowen and colleagues, 2014), those who took an 8-week mindfulness-based relapse prevention course — meditation plus relapse-prevention skills — reported fewer days of substance use and less heavy drinking a year later than people in standard relapse prevention or usual aftercare.
