Editorial policy

RecoveryHome publishes three kinds of content: guides written by our team, questions and answers from members, and questions and answers written by our team. This page explains how each is made and how you can tell them apart.

Guides

Our guides summarize publicly available guidance from federal health agencies and the medical community, such as SAMHSA, NIH (including NIDA and NIAAA), and CMS. They are general information, not medical advice, and they say so. When something needs a decision about your own care, we point you to a licensed professional.

Member Q&A

Questions and answers from members are their own words and their own experience. We moderate for safety and kindness but don't edit what members say, and member answers are framed as lived experience, not medical advice.

Team Q&A

Some questions and answers are written by the RecoveryHome team. We write them from situations people often ask us about, and answer them with general information from the same public health sources as our guides. Every team post is labeled on the page with the name “RecoveryHome team” and a Team badge.

  • We never post as members or create accounts that look like members.
  • We never invent personal stories and present them as real people's experiences.
  • When we describe a situation to illustrate a question, it is a general example built from common questions, not one person's story.
  • We never backdate posts. The date shown is when a post was published.
  • We don't recommend or endorse specific treatment programs or businesses in team posts. We do point to free public resources, such as SAMHSA's helpline and 988, and to mutual support such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.

Sometimes the team posts a question to ask members about their experience, with no team answer. Those are labeled the same way.

Advertising and content

Advertisers never write, review, or pay for our guides or Q&A, and paying for advertising never changes what they say. Paid placements are always labeled “Featured” or “Sponsored.” Read how search results are ordered and how we make money.

Corrections

If you see something wrong or out of date, tell us at amityconnect@protonmail.com or use the Report link on any post. We correct errors promptly.
