Steps 8 & 9: amends list

One entry per person: what happened, what you owe, the kind of amends, and whether you're ready — with your sponsor.

Why this helps

Steps 8 and 9 turn the inventory into repair. Listing each person and planning direct, indirect or living amends — and checking that making them won't harm anyone — is safest done with a sponsor or counselor.

Step work is best done with a sponsor or mentor. This is a private place to prepare — share it with them when you're ready. Use initials, and don't make an amends that could hurt someone or put you in danger. Talks with a sponsor aren't legally confidential the way talks with a lawyer are. If something could carry legal consequences, keep it out of writing and get legal advice before you share the details. If you're afraid of someone or being hurt, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is free and confidential 24/7: 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788. In an emergency, call 911.
