Scared of fentanyl withdrawal — what actually helps get through detox?

Every time I try on my own the sickness wins by day 2 and I use again. I'm ashamed to keep failing at this. What made detox survivable for you?

Please hear this first: failing to white-knuckle fentanyl withdrawal is not a character flaw — it's the reason medical detox exists. What made it survivable for me was not doing it alone: a real detox unit where they could start buprenorphine once I was ready and treat the symptoms in between. Call a center and ask two questions: 'Do you manage fentanyl withdrawal specifically?' and 'Do you start medication (like buprenorphine) on-site?' The 'trying on my own' loop you're describing is the hardest road there is. You've been attempting the expert level. There's an easier door, and walking through it counts just as much.

No shame in this. Fentanyl changed the game — the old cold-turkey stories don't apply. Medical support isn't cheating; it's the current standard of care. And if you ever use in the meantime, please don't use alone.
