Some programs advertise ocean views, private chefs, and spa treatments at much higher prices. Are they more effective?

Amenities aren't the same as quality of care. A comfortable setting can make a stay more pleasant, but outcomes depend on the treatment itself.
What matters most:
- Licensed, experienced clinicians and a good staff-to-client ratio
- Evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy and contingency management
- Medication treatment where appropriate, especially for opioid and alcohol use disorders
- Treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions
- Family involvement
- A strong plan for aftercare
Questions to ask any program, at any price: What evidence-based treatments do you use? Who delivers them, and what are their credentials? Do you offer medication? What does aftercare look like? What's the full cost?
A modest, well-run program close to home can be a better choice than an expensive one far away.
