I hate group settings. Is there a version of recovery that isn't meetings?

Introvert, social anxiety, the circle-of-chairs thing makes my skin crawl. Am I doomed to white-knuckle this alone or are there real alternatives?

Real alternatives exist and people stay sober with them: individual therapy with an addiction-savvy counselor, SMART Recovery (smaller, more workbook-than-testimony, strong online options where the camera can stay off), medication support through your doctor where appropriate, structured apps with coaching, and honestly — writing in communities like this one, which is social support at a survivable temperature for introverts. Two cautions from my own path: 'not meetings' can't quietly become 'no humans at all' — isolation is the actual enemy, so pick SOMETHING with people in it. And some folks who hated the circle at 30 days tolerate it fine at a year. Doors stay open.

My son is 3 years sober and has been to maybe five traditional meetings ever. Therapist + online SMART + a running club that doesn't drink. The container matters less than the consistency.
